INSTINCT is the first web-based multi-center study monitoring Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection (SAB) and currently represents one of the most detailed studies dealing with this important infection.

INSTINCT was established to prospectively monitor clinical features of SAB in Germany using a web-based database. Data to assess risk factors, predisposing conditions, the clinical course, diagnostic and therapeutic proceures as well as outcome up to one year after onset SAB are collected by infectious diseases physicians aided by specially trained medical personnel.
